The Great Text Off

It has been well established that the McDougall’s are a competitive bunch. From the Christmas card competition, to poker and pools (there was even a Deal or No Deal pool Sunday night); we can compete on any level. The money isn’t even the motivation…it is all about the bragging rights.

The competitive spirit overtook an otherwise normal Thursday night family dinner. I met T, Gail, Eboogie, Moose, my aunt and my 14 year old cousin Boobie Miles (he was having a hard time settling on a blog name after “SexyD” and “Salty Lemon” were unanimously rejected.)

Anyway, we were sitting there enjoying sandwiches from our favorite local townie hang out when a simple statement was made…”McDougall texts faster then anyone I’ve ever seen.” It took all of about 5 seconds before my skills were called into question and a competition was to ensue.

Boobie quipped, “I can beat her.”

There is was. The challenge was presented, the gauntlet thrown. In order to prove that my reputation was well deserved and I reigned supreme as the master of all things text related, I would have to put my proficiency to the test and take on Boobie.

I had no doubts in my ability. I am as good as they say. However, I am not comfortable coming in as the heavy favorite. I am more aligned with Rocky, the underdog. I like to be underestimated so no one sees me coming.

The rules were simple. Each of us placed our phones down on the table in front of us, the screen open to a blank text message to Eboogie. She would give us a sentence and we would each write it out and send it. First full correct text to reach her phone would be declared the winner.

Ready, set….

Eboogie unveils the message (dogs bark and can’t fly without umbrellas…a testament to a classic 80s flick). With that sentence, the most heated of all competitive battles was underway…

And was there ever any doubt who would be victorious? I didn’t think so. Mine was sent and received before he even finished typing.

Boobie whined and complained about a rematch but I told him he needs some serious practice before I give him another shot at the title.
