On the Fourth of July holiday, I am always filled with rampant patriotism and pride for this country. That and the desire to eat hot dogs and pasta salad, play bocce and get down with the family in some good old fashioned picnic debauchery.
Tragically, no one was stepping up to the plate and offering to host this year's shingdig.
After having spent the past couple weeks on the IR with a nagging illness, I found myself saddened by the prospect of not celebrating the country's birthday properly. Since I have no yard with which to entertain and Eboogie's is currently in shambles as a result of a landscaping project, we felt the need to defer this yearly honor to our parents. So we embarked on the greatest of all American traditions, the guilt trip.
It took some coaxing to convince a reluctant Gail B. of the necessity of throwing a party. We promised no impositions...we would take care of the shopping and the food preparation. They just had to cook the burgers and put out some lawn chairs. It was a fair trade all around.
(What I haven't told her yet is the Uncle Michael, who shit under the bed, is bringing fireworks. Shhh...)
So here I am passing the time blogging until I can officially start celebrating the 4th in the manner it was intended. I have not eaten all morning in preparation for another holiday tradition...the binge fest that will take place all afternoon and hopefully well into this evening.
So Happy Birthday, dear America...you only get better with age.

I have to say that it was a damn fine, low maintenance picnic. Hot dogs, hamburgers, shrimp, stuffed clams...cake, chocolate turtles, fruit and cream, smores and watermelon. Plus, the boys' performance art firework show was fun.
I think my favorite part was watching the boys stand there bewildered while trying to figure out how to light a match. Kids these days.
So glad you guys were able to have a 4th celebration. I was finally able to enjoy the long weekend down in MD with the family. Great beach weather and picnic. Sadly, the fireworks got rained out...but 2 out of 3 ain't bad!
